Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Erik ten Hag would ‘love’ to have Cody Gakpo at Manchester United.

The Lowdown: Man United linked with Gakpo

The Red Devils were linked with a move for the 23-year-old over the summer but appeared to walk away from a transfer in favour of signing Antony from Ajax.

Speculation of a move has continued, though, with United still interested in signing the PSV star. Reports have claimed that talks are progressing quickly and Fabrizio Romano has recently said that they are in the race for the Dutchman, with Gakpo in fine form during the current campaign having already contributed to 30 goals in 23 games.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport regarding United and Gakpo, O’Rourke feels that Ten Hag would ‘love’ to have the forward at Old Trafford, citing the player's goalscoring ability in recent months.

The journalist said: “I’m sure Erik ten Hag would love to add him to his squad in January because he has been quite vocal in saying that he needs more attacking players at Manchester United.

“He needs more goals as well, and that’s something that Cody Gakpo would definitely add to this Man United team. Looking at his record for PSV this season, he scores goals and assists goals as well, so he’s a player that would definitely tick the boxes for Ten Hag.”

The Verdict: Fingers crossed

Gakpo has 58 goals to his name for club and country, and you’d expect that United fans will be able to watch him in action for the Netherlands at the World Cup later this month, with the 23-year-old featuring abundantly at international level this year.

Old Trafford chiefs may also need to sign a new forward in the New Year, with Cristiano Ronaldo told that he can depart the club in January.

Therefore, it could prove to be an inspiring piece of business if Gakpo comes to Manchester, and still just 23 years of age, you’d like to think that the forward will only get even better over the coming years.
