During Manchester United’s 1-1 draw away to Club Brugge in the Europa League Round of 32 first leg, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the decision to bring on January loan signing Odion Ighalo for goalscorer Anthony Martial mid-way through the second half – resulting in criticism from waves of supporters.
Martial, who grabbed the Red Devils’ only goal on Thursday afternoon, taking advantage of some lapse defending to slot the ball past Simon Mignolet to equalise, was taken off mid-way through the second period for new signing Ighalo – with the Nigerian yet to score his first goal for the club after two appearances. However, despite the former Watford man’s introduction, many supporters believe that Martial wasn’t the man he should’ve been replacing – taking to Twitter and voicing their discontent with Solskjaer’s tactics. The Frenchman, while scoring United’s only goal of the game, also struck the post and continued to be a threatening presence before being substituted.
