Responding to quotes from the Daily Mail, Manchester United fans have been in uproar after manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s post-match FA Cup jibe aimed at Tranmere Rovers keeper Scott Davies following their 6-0 win at Prenton Park.
Davies, who revealed to the Telegraph that he was a boyhood Manchester City fan and hinted at his desire to cause an upset before the encounter, ended up being on the receiving end of a 6-0 drubbing. Goals from Harry Maguire, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Diogo Dalot and Mason Greenwood sealed a routine win for the Red Devils who take on their cross-town rivals on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.
With that in mind, after the match, Solskjaer told the Mail that the keeper’s pre-match interviews surrounding his City heritage ‘fired up the players’ – perhaps taking a jibe at the 32-year-old shot-stopper.
