Luke Shaw has taken over diary duties from Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Manchester United’s official website, and the club posted his first entry earlier this week.
As football is currently suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, clubs around the world have been keeping fans entertained with a string of funny tweets, highlight reels, and player interviews. The 24-year-old opened up about a whole range of topics, including techniques for coping with the nationwide lockdown, as well as shedding light on his Red Devils teammates.
When asked which player has helped him develop the most, Shaw answered “Another one I’d say is Pogba. He’s always been good with me.”
“He’s always telling me to believe in myself, telling me that he believes in me, so he’s one that I’d say always pushes me in training.”
The Englishman concluded “he’s always said positive things to me that have driven me on, so I’d have to say Paul is a big influence.”
Having moved to the north of England from Southampton for £33.75m back in the summer of 2014, the left-back has made over 100 appearances for United so far, scoring 2 goals, providing 10 assists, featuring in 18 games in the Premier League for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, registering 1.5 tackles per game and successfully completing 2.4 clearances on average (WhoScored). His current market value is estimated at £15.75m via Transfermarkt.
Paul Pogba’s time at Old Trafford has been plagued by circling transfer rumours over the years, catalysed by the tinkering of his controversial agent Mino Raiola, with recent reports linking the Frenchman to a return to his former club Juventus, and longtime suitors Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid.
Regardless, Shaw was full of praise for the 27-year-old, and popular fan site UtdReport shared the excerpt on social media, prompting discussion amongst the United faithful. One fan cheekily poked fun at Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, commenting “Souness will be fuming.”
