Loads of Manchester United supporters reacted to Sadio Mane’s surprising revelation about his time at Southampton.
Speaking to The Times via the Evening Standard, the Liverpool forward remarked his representatives “were thinking most about Manchester United” before he moved to Merseyside from St Mary’s in 2016.
After arriving at Anfield for a reported fee worth £37m, the Senegalese international gone on to become an icon at the club. This season alone he has made 26 appearances in the Premier League, bagging 14 goals, creating 7 assists, taking 2.3 shots per game, and completing 1.9 dribbles on average via WhoScored. His market value is now priced at a staggering £108m via Transfermarkt.
While there is no doubt some fans are wishfully thinking about what could have been, if Mane had transferred to Old Trafford instead, a couple of others have argued the 28-year-old would have had a hard time getting game time ahead of United academy graduate Marcus Rashford.
The 22-year-old has played in 22 games in the English top flight under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in this campaign and only has 4 goal fewer than the Senegal striker, scoring 14 times whilst also providing 4 assists, averaging 3.4 shots and successfully completing at least 2 dribbles per game, according to WhoScored.
One Red Devil cheekily commented Mane would have been a “backup for Lingard” and another noted he “could have been a Tevez-like signing.”
