Manchester United have tried to sell Marcos Rojo in four of the past five summer transfer windows but to no avail, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The veteran defender is on loan at his boyhood club Estudiantes de La Plata after agreeing a move in January, having fallen out of favour with club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Ever since arriving at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon for a reported fee worth £18m in 2014, Rojo has featured in more than 100 games for United, until he returned to his homeland earlier this year. The 31-year-old’s current contract with the Argentine outfit is set to expire in June, and his existing agreement runs out next season, although he is keen to extend his stay in the South American country, as he is not a part of Solskjaer’s future plans.
The Argentine played just 211 minutes in the Premier League throughout the entirety of the previous campaign, shockingly blocking 0.4 shots per game, accidentally scoring an own goal, and receiving a low statistical rating of 6.15 (WhoScored).
Rojo’s market value is estimated at £7.2m via Transfermarkt yet the board have still been unable to offload the centre-back.
Lots of Red Devils slammed the transfer update on social media, with one fan labelling the Argentinian international as a “big risk,” and another simply admonishing the “state of this club.”
