Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, according to a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The lowdown: End of an era
The 33-year-old wants to leave the Bundesliga champions this summer in order to pursue a fresh challenge having spent eight years in Bavaria.
During his time at the Allianz Arena, the prolific Polish frontman has scored a remarkable 344 goals in 374 outings for Bayern, lifting eight German top-flight titles to add to the two he won under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund.
Unsurprisingly a highly sought-after commodity, Lewandowski would appear to have suitors in at least three of Europe’s elite leagues…
The latest: United chasing Lewandowski
As per Mundo Deportivo, United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are all keen on signing the 129-cap superstar.
It’s claimed that the Red Devils have ‘positioned themselves internally’ to sign Lewandowski in the summer should a preferred move to Camp Nou fail to materialise due to the finances involved.
The report cites a €40m (£33.9m) asking price for the man described as ‘absolutely lethal’ by journalist Ronan Murphy, and who Sir Alex Ferguson tried to bring to Old Trafford in 2012.
The verdict: Make it happen
Albeit another example of the Red Devils shopping in a much-maligned market following the previous captures of ageing forwards Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, as well as the successful return of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lewandowski remains a world-class operator at the very highest level.
So far this season, the Poland centre-forward has scored 50 times and provided another seven assists in just 46 appearances across all competition,- earning a staggering 7.47 Sofascore rating, the fourth highest in the Bundesliga. Also, he has played on average 84 minutes per game, a sign of the veteran’s continued fitness levels.

With 35-year-old Cavani set to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season, replacing the Uruguayan with Lewandowksi and potentially partnering the Polish ace with Ronaldo would make sense for new manager Erik ten Hag, despite the Dutchman having a penchant for favouring younger players as opposed to a list of star-studded names.
