When asked the question, the ex-Arsenal striker explained how he had to give the accolade to Scholes purely because he made United ‘tick’ – with a huge section of supporters in complete agreement.

The Englishman made just under 500 appearances for United in the Premier League, scoring 107 goals and assisting 54 others in midfield, as per Transfermarkt.

By comparison, Gerrard’s numbers exceed his compatriot’s – with the Liverpool legend netting 121 goals and assisting 70 in five more outings.

However, Henry insists that Scholes is the superior midfielder due to his more subtle contributions – marking himself out for mountains of praise from Red Devils supporters.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
