Harry Kane has been giving Manchester United a very difficult time of late. He’s been on their target list since the past five years, and might even be available now, suddenly! Not just that, he could be offered at an affordable price too, considering the financial realities of the present times.
However, with Kane coming into Manchester United’s range, Solskjaer would need to consider if to take Sir Alex Ferguson’s approach of targeting the best English players, and go all out for Kane, or to stick to his own plan which has finally started showing results, and target Borussia Dortmund’s youngster Jadon Sancho instead.
Players like Harry Kane make or break the best teams, often going on to play a significant role in their successes and failures, in well-known derbies too, whether in England, Africa or elsewhere. If things were normal, United would have liked to sign both of them, irrespective of the strain it would have put on their finances. But we live in unusual times right now. There is a reason why United will need to focus on either Sancho or Kane, once transfers start happening at some point down the road.
Kane recently opened up about the possibility of leaving Spurs
Manchester United have been targeting Harry Kane ever since his breakthrough stint with Tottenham during 2015 when he scored a total of 21 goals under Mauricio Pochettino. Furthermore, United have always preferred British players over others, and have a history of signing well-known Brit footballers like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, David Beckham and more, from time to time.
Kane went out of reach for United after 2015, both because of Tottenham’s dominance in the league as well United’s own decline in the post-Ferguson era. But despite always insisting to stay put with Spurs, Kane recently opened up about his possible move away during a Q&A session with Jamie Redknapp, on Instagram last month. His comments during their live session were followed by Daniel Levy, Spurs’ chairman going on record and admitting that he’d be ready to sell the player for £ 200 million.
A lot will depend on Kane’s final price tag
On the other hand, Manchester United have also been simultaneously trying to rope in Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. Like Harry Cane, Sancho has been United’s target for long. As per Solskjaer, the 20-year-old can prove to be a significant addition to their already young forward line comprising of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Marshall and Marcus Rashford.
Now the question is, if Solskjaer would be ready to turn down Kane for Sancho? Many feel Kane could prove to be the next van Persie for Manchester United, considering his track record and experience. But at the same time his recent injuries make him a sort of gamble for the Red Devils.
Sancho could be a risky proposition too, but being only 20, United can nurture and use him for the next 10 years. Eventually, a move for Harry Kane would depend a lot on his price tag. And he can forget about joining United if both Levy and Spurs don’t budge from their £ 200 million valuation.
