‘Mans a winner’, ‘Get him in the summer’ - Man City fans call for future acquisition of £27m-rated star on Twitter

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling positive about their prospects for the remainder of the season following a successful January transfer window.

Despite being linked with an abundance of different players from across Europe in the January window, Man City only completed one major signing last month in the shape of Aymeric Laporte who they brought to The Etihad Stadium from Athletic Bilbao. City were also busy securing signings for the future, as they welcomed Jack Harrison, Philippe Sandler and Erik Palmer-Brown to the club in transfers which went under the radar of the mainstream media.

City’s £57 million signing of Laporte was a club-record breaking deal for The Citizens, but they almost broke their own record just 24 hours later with the signing of Riyad Mahrez (valued at £27 million by Transfermarkt). The injury to Leroy Sane appeared to spark panic amongst the City hierarchy who staged a late pursuit to sign Mahrez from Leicester City on deadline day.

However, the cost of the deal proved to be a stumbling block for City for the second time in the January window after they pulled out of a deal for Alexis Sanchez for the same reason. Despite Leicester’s extortionate demands, some of the City fans are starting to believe that the signing of Mahrez is now purely a case of when and not if.

And as such, plenty of the supporters have taken to Twitter to call for City to wrap up a deal for the Algerian ace next summer.
