Liverpool supporters have been pretty quiet in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday to put a dent in their chances of finishing second this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash at Old Trafford just two points behind the Red Devils and having won their previous three league games, yet they were unable to usurp Jose Mourinho’s side in the table with victory on Saturday. Ultimately, it was Marcus Rashford’s first half double which did the damage, as although the Reds got back into it courtesy of Eric Bailly’s own goal, they weren’t able to get past a resilient United defence to prevent a fourth Premier League defeat of the season, a result which instigated their fall to fourth place in the division.
Subsequently, there have been many disappointed Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom have already forgotten about Saturday’s defeat, and are instead turning their attentions towards this weekend’s home clash with Watford.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric with a move to Anfield in the summer.
The 32-year-old has been at the Spanish giants since 2012 and in that time has helped the club to the La Liga title last year and indeed three Champions League crowns, with his 245 appearances for the European champions yielding 13 goals and 36 assists.
Yet reports suggest that he could be in line for a return to the Premier League, with Liverpool one side reportedly keen on the Croatia international in a bid to bolster their midfield ranks ahead of the new season.
And while there’s little doubting Modric’s quality in the middle of the park, many Liverpool supporters on Twitter really do not want their side to sign the £36 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) this summer…
