Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing after their managerial hunt finally came to an end – our punters can’t wait for next season!
Former Argentina and Chile boss, namely Marcelo Bielsa, was officially announced as the new Leeds manager last week. The 62-year-old arrives with a glistening CV and will become the highest paid manager in the club’s history. Our punters are hopeful the Whites will return to the Premier League under his leadership.
There is plenty of work to be done now Bielsa’s appointment has been confirmed. Defence will be an area of concern and the Argentine needs to prioritise the signing of a new central defender to ensure his side remain solid next season, and his first order of business should be to secure the signing of Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley (valued at £3.15 million by Transfermarkt).
The 27-year-old featured on loan at Elland Road in the 2016/17 season and was a key player under Garry Monk as the Whites narrowly missed out on the playoff places. He captained the side in the absence of Liam Bridcutt and ended the season with 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals along the way – not bad for a central defender!
Much to the disappointment of the resident Whites’ faithful propping up our bar, Bartley then returned to Swansea but injuries restricted him to just five Premier League appearances last season. Following the Swans’ relegation, Bartley has hinted he will leave the club, with a return to Leeds his ideal destination.
The 27-year-old was a fan-favourite during his spell with the club, and our punters would love to see him back at Elland Road next season.
Bielsa must make signing Bartley a priority in the transfer market this summer.
