Sheffield Wednesday have managed to tie down one of their key players this season to a new deal, although there may be some concern about how long the extension is for.
The 20-year-old has emerged as a rising star for Jos Luhukay and the Owls this season, having graduated from the club’s academy and impressing in the games he has featured in.
Penney offers the club some versatility, as he can play in a number of positions on the left-hand side of the pitch, although he has since started the last two matches on the substitutes bench.
The Verdict:

Sheffield Wednesday will be delighted to have managed to tie down Penney to a new deal, especially with a number of clubs having taken note of his performances for the Owls recently.
His new contract can be looked at in two very different ways though, with the length of the extension being at the forefront of the discussion.
It could be a smart move by Wednesday in tying him down for an extra 12 months without having to risk too much, although fans may be unable as it leaves them open to facing another similar situation this time next year.
