Max Meyer to earn £170,000 a week at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace look set to land one of their biggest signings of the summer, however, he will come with a huge cost.

The Eagles have been busy adding a couple of bodies to their squad during the transfer window as they look to remain competitive in the Premier League and continue to mount a challenge.

Roy Hodgson has already added Vicente Guaita and Chiekhou Kouyate to the Selhurst Park outfit and it looks as though he is about to add Max Meyer as well.

However, the Daily Mail are reporting that the German midfielder is going to set them back around £35million in just wages, whilst giving Schalke just £450,000 in compensation. It is understood the 22-year-old has been offered a four-year contract worth around £170,000 a week and would make him the top earner at the club.

In fact, the deal would make the former Schalke man among the 20 best-paid players in the Premier League.

The Verdict:

There is no doubt in Meyer’s ability, however, this could prove to be an expensive risk for Crystal Palace to make.

There will be no questions about the ambition shown by the Selhurst Park outfit to pull off the coup of the German attacker, however, £170,000 a week is not a fee that Palace will be able to just hand out as other clubs can.

There will be expectant eyes on Meyer this season to see if he can justify the extortionate wages, otherwise, he could become one very expensive flop for the Eagles.
