Rangers have faced some magnificent players down the years.
Gianluigi Buffon and Lillian Thuram, for example, faced the Gers for Parma, whilst Alessandro del Piero travelled to Ibrox during his time with Juventus. Gaizka Mendieta, it seems, is another one who stood out when he faced the Glasgow outfit.

The former Spain international appeared for Valencia during the 1999-2000 Champions League campaign, and they faced Rangers in the group stage. In the game at Ibrox, it was Los Ches who picked up all three points, winning 2-1 on the night, and Mendieta played a huge part in that. He scored the opener, and overall controlled proceedings in the middle of the park.

The Rangers fans clearly still remember his stunning display, and they have been quick to praise the former Lazio man following a Twitter post from the club’s official account discussing the playmaker. The supporters took to the social media platform to share their thoughts – one even described him as ‘unplayable’.
