Middlesbrough could be set to be hit with a large transfer bill involving one of their former players.
It is believed there were certain clauses involved in the agreement between the two sides, including one being a 1m promotion payment.
Despite the player being sold in the winter of 2016, Boro were promoted in the summer to the Premier League, however, refused to pay Murcia the clause as he was no longer at the club.
However, the Spanish outfit argued their case to the football courts and claimed they should be entitled to it after the player made 19 appearances in that season, scoring four goals and providing an assist.
The Verdict:
Middlesbrough will want the whole situation between themselves and Murcia to be resolved as soon as possible, although they are unlikely to be happy about the outcome.
Tony Pulis will want his side to remain focused on their current campaign and promotion efforts as they currently sit second in the Championship.
Boro look a strong contender for Premier League football next season, having been one of the division’s most defensively-solid sides so far.
