Midfielder appears to confirm Chelsea departure

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern knew it was coming…

John Obi Mikel has played for Chelsea for over a decade, but it would appear that his tenure in the English capital is coming to a close.

Rumours have been rampant in the Transfer Tavern over the last few weeks surrounding the potential departure of the Nigerian, with Mikel yet to feature under Conte and his contract set to expire at the end of the season – with Valencia the latest club to be linked with a move for the midfield veteran.

Mikel himself, up until this point, has yet to really comment on the news – instead opting to keep his head down and focus on his job at Chelsea – but a recent tweet from the midfielder has appeared to confirm what we all knew was coming.

Taking to Twitter, Mikel yesterday Tweeted out an image of a letter sent to him by a fan – and featured within the letter were comments regarding his proposed move to Valencia.

“As the rumours [say]” it reads “soon you will go to Valencia or another club” – referring to the reports linking Mikel with a move away.

See the Tweet below…

Mikel did not outrightly confirm or deny that sentence in particular, but instead chose to share the letter for all to see – whilst also thanking the fan for the support.

If the reports linking Mikel with a move away were not true, you would think that Mikel would either not share the letter, or he would deny that his departure is imminent – but he did neither. He instead shared the letter for his thousands of followers to see – and as a result, he has appeared to confirm that his Chelsea departure is coming.

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are somewhat disappointed, given how well Mikel played last season, but they knew that it was coming. Mikel hasn’t featured this season, and a departure looked inevitable.
