Everton and Liverpool fans are getting a few ales in at the Transfer Tavern ahead of Saturday’s crucial Merseyside derby.
The local rivals have faced each other countless times before but Saturday’s instalment feels particularly significant, with the Toffees on the rise off the pitch and just six points behind the Reds in the Premier League table.
A first Everton win at Anfield since 1999, therefore, could well signal a shift in the balance of power on Merseyside, something few Reds fans could have imagined in the first half of the season as Jurgen Klopp’s side looked set to challenge for the title.
But Liverpool have struggled for consistency since the turn of 2017, whereas Everton have lost just one of their last nine Premier League fixtures.
