The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to contemplate the possibility of an invincible Premier League campaign following their side’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s side consolidated their advantage at the top of the table last weekend with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham at the Eithad Stadium. On paper, City’s clash with Spurs was one of their most difficult fixtures of the season so far, but they once again expressed their superiority in the English top-flight with a dominant display over a side who were hoping to challenge for the title in pre-season. However, Tottenham look completely out of contention for English football’s top-prize considering City are 21 points ahead of the 7th-placed Lilywhites after just 18 matches.
The immediate future at Manchester City looks bright to say the least, but in the last few months the resident Citizens propping up the bar have been given plenty of reason to believe the long-term future will be equally as successful.
City’s academy product and local-born wonderkid Phil Foden has become something of a national hero since England’s victory at the U17 World Cup.
And his talent was officially recognised by the BBC yesterday as he collected the Young Sports Personality of the Year award.
The award capped off a landmark weekend for Foden in which he also made his Premier League debut for City against Spurs, after entering proceedings in place of Ilkay Gundogan in the 83rd minute.
After collecting the BBC award yesterday, supporters of Manchester City and clubs from across the country took to Twitter to voice their support for a man who certainly has a big future in English football.
