The Transfer Tavern’s Manchester United patrons have spent the last few days relentlessly praising Marcus Rashford’s performance against Chelsea – but fearing for the prodigious forward’s long-term future at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old exploded onto the scene last season with a spate of crucial goals in big games, but has found such opportunities harder to come by this term under Jose Mourinho – making just twelve starts in the top flight.
Last weekend provided a rare exception, however, as Rashford lead the line against Chelsea and netted the first in a 2-0 win over the Blues. And according to Manchester Evening News, although Mourinho is determined to add firepower to his squad this summer, Rashford will be a pivotal part of any overhaul of United’s attacking options.
It’s further added that Mourinho believes Rashford will become a key player at Old Trafford over the course of the coming seasons, allaying fears that a summer signing of the Antoine Griezmann variety will quickly see his squad role reduced under the Portuguese.
Griezmann arriving would inevitably impact his game-time, especially in the central striker role, but Mourinho plans to utilise Rashford in the Red Devils’ attack once again next year.
