Rafa Benitez never quite could guide Liverpool to a Premier League title.
The Spaniard did manage to clinch a Champions League title for the Reds, but despite coming close during the 2008-09 season, he was unable to do what many of the Anfield outfit’s supporters wanted – to stand on top of the domestic podium.
However, it could have all been very different according to super-agent Jorge Mendes. In his recent book, he has said that Jose Mourinho almost joined Liverpool in 2004, but a delay led to the Merseyside club giving the job to Benitez instead. The Portuguese boss would go on to win the Premier League three times across two spells with Chelsea.

It seems that the club’s supporters, though, are far from disappointed that he didn’t join them instead of the Blues. They have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.
