It’s fair to say the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are demanding major changes at Stamford Bridge this summer. The current campaign has been nothing short of a disaster for the Blues, with Antonio Conte’s men struggling on all fronts.
With hopes of a Champions League win and a top-four finish both dashed, Chelsea are now having to place all of their eggs in the FA Cup basket, and that’s clearly not good enough.
This summer, then, big changes need to come.
However, not only do Chelsea need to bring players in, but they also need to sell players as they look to bring the overall quality of the team up.
At present, there are a handful of squad players that just aren’t good enough to regularly turn out for the Blues.
With that said, Chelsea should freshen things up by selling these 3 players this summer…
Pedro
Last season, Pedro was one of Chelsea’s most important players, but he just hasn’t been good enough this term.
It’s clear that age is beginning to creep up on him, and at present, he’s easily the worst of Chelsea’s attackers.
He’s shown nothing to suggest that he’s going to get any better anytime soon, and with Chelsea looking to move into a new era, it might be time to leave him behind.
He’s been a great servant, but an attacking refresh is needed.
Gary Cahill
Gary Cahill is another player that is past his best.
The Englishman hasn’t been playing well for the best part of a year, and his starting role has been overtaken by Antonio Rudiger this season.
He’s still playing regularly as a rotational option, but that’s because Antonio Conte has little other choice.
Chelsea need to cut back on defensive mistakes, and selling Cahill would do a lot to begin that process.
Danny Drinkwater
This transfer looked like a disaster when it happened, and it hasn’t even met those very low expectations.
Plagued by a lack of form and fitness, Drinkwater hasn’t been able to make an impact in the midfield for Chelsea, and he currently finds himself near the bottom of the totem pole with regards to Antonio Conte’s team selection.
Unfortunately for him, with Chelsea likely to invest pretty sizeably this summer, his position is only going to reduce in significance, and so a departure makes sense for all involved.
