Newcastle United are plotting a fresh attempt to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon, according to a report from the Chronicle Live.

The Magpies have been extensively linked with numerous wide options this summer, falling short in their efforts to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby, Rennes ace Kamaldeen Sulemana and Club Brugge winger Noa Lang.
Despite an opening day 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Toon boss Eddie Howe is still looking to bolster the attacking options at his disposal in the North East and links to Callum Hudson-Odoi and James Maddison have emerged in recent days.
Having previously been indexed to Gordon earlier in the window before being issued with a hands-off warning, now it appears as though the Tynesiders could be about to rekindle their admiration…
The latest: ‘Fresh bid’
As per Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle are believed to be ‘considering a fresh bid’ to sign the four-cap England Under 21 starlet.
It’s claimed that the St James’ Park club are readying an improved offer after a £35million proposal was rejected by Everton, although there could still be competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The report also states that as well as another swoop for Gordon – who was described as an ‘exciting player’ with ‘huge potential’ by Sunderland manager Alex Neil – Newcastle are also understood to be ‘pondering’ another offer for Maddison.
The verdict: Go all out
Although ownership group PIF have been reluctant to splash the cash thus far, going the extra mile to land a player of the 21-year-old’s class and future prospects would be a wholly worthwhile venture.

Last season, Gordon scored four times and provided three assists in 40 appearances across all competitions for what was a struggling Everton side, earning a 6.89 Sofascore rating whilst winning 4.9 duels, completing 1.1 successful dribbles and 1.0 key pass on average per game.
Predominantly operating as a left winger, the Scouse attacker – who shares similar stylistic traits to Jordan Ayew, Dwight McNeil and Newcastle-linked Jack Harrison (Fbref) – can operate on either wing and in central areas and would therefore be a superb addition to Howe’s ranks.
