Newcastle United could go back in for Everton’s Anthony Gordon when the transfer window opens in January, The I’s Mark Douglas reports.
The lowdown
According to Douglas, Newcastle made an offer of just under £30million for Gordon during the summer window.
However, Everton had ‘no intention of entertaining bids’ for the youngster and instead hope to tie him down to a new contract on improved terms, as per The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland.
Newcastle brought in four new faces – Alexander Isak, Sven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope – but didn’t manage to recruit a new wide player, and based on their interest in both Gordon and Jack Harrison, that could be on the agenda in January.

With ‘money available in January‘ for Eddie Howe and Newcastle, Douglas says that they could ‘revive’ their interest in Gordon.
There will be scope for the Magpies to revisit some of the targets that they couldn’t land during the summer months.
The verdict
Significantly, Gordon expressed a wish to leave Everton when he was made aware of interest from Chelsea.
He seems determined to move onto bigger and better things, but Newcastle will have to convince him of the credentials of their project.
A strong run between now and January, perhaps one that leaves the Magpies in European places, could go a long way to doing just that.
The arrival of the 21-year-old Gordon, who’s been dubbed ‘remarkable‘ by Danny Murphy and ‘different class‘ by James Tarkowski, could generate considerable excitement on Tyneside.
