Newcastle United face a major challenge this summer following the departure of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
The England international left St James’ Park in a deal worth an initial €70 million, with add-ons capable of pushing the total package beyond €80 million.
After contributing 17 goals and five assists across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, replacing his influence will be no easy task.
Rather than searching for a ready-made replacement, however, Newcastle appear focused on investing in the future by targeting one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking talents.
Newcastle Submit Bid for Zadok Yohanna
According to Swedish outlet Expressen, Newcastle have opened negotiations to sign AIK winger Zadok Yohanna.
The Magpies are reported to have submitted an opening offer worth around €24 million (£21 million) plus bonuses for the 18-year-old Nigerian prospect, although it remains unclear whether that bid will be enough to secure a deal.
Yohanna, who has been described as a “sensation” by former Nigerian striker Abiola Dauda, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Sweden, registering five goals and four assists while rapidly establishing himself as one of the country’s most sought-after young players.
Newcastle are not alone in the race, however. Brighton remain interested after previously considering a bid in the region of €22-23 million, while French side Rennes are also keeping a close watch on developments.
Should the transfer go through at the reported price, Yohanna would become the most expensive sale in the history of the Swedish top flight.
The teenager is viewed as one of the brightest prospects in Scandinavian football, with his pace, direct running and attacking flair making him an attractive long-term investment.
Losing Gordon leaves a significant hole in Newcastle’s attack, but Yohanna appears to fit the club’s growing focus on elite young talent. He may not be expected to replace the former Everton winger immediately, but the Magpies clearly believe he has the potential to become a key player for years to come.
