There are some interesting reports arriving in the Football Transfer Tavern today as Sky Sports suggest that Newcastle United want to hijack Liverpool’s deal for FC Basel’s Mohamed Salah.
The news has been met by groans from the Liverpool faithful sat in the bar this evening.
It was thought that the 21-year-old Egyptian international was ready to make the switch to Anfield as Brendan Rodgers attempts to strengthen his squad ahead of a possible title run-in.
Salah, who is rated at around £10 million by the Reds, has been impressing all with some accomplished displays for his club in the Champions League, with his fine performances in his side’s two victories over Chelsea earning rave reviews.
Basel are thought to value their star at around £16 million, which could see the Magpies make their move for the winger. Alan Pardew is thought to be more concerned about keeping hold of his star players in January, with Yohan Cabaye strongly linked with a move away.
However today’s reports indicate that Salah has emerged as a possible target for the St. James’ Park club, with the possibility of beating the Reds to the excellent midfield man.
Who would prove more of an attractive proposition? Newcastle or Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.
