Newcastle United’s season is effectively over.
With just two matches remaining, Eddie Howe’s side can neither qualify for Europe nor be dragged into a relegation scrap, leaving a top-half finish as the only realistic target — and even that appears unlikely from 13th place.
After heavy spending last summer failed to deliver the expected leap forward, there is already growing pressure on the Magpies to strengthen again ahead of next season.
While several areas of the squad could need attention, attacking reinforcements are firmly on the agenda, especially with uncertainty surrounding Anthony Gordon’s future.
Now, Newcastle are reportedly monitoring one Premier League forward closely as they begin planning for what could be another pivotal summer rebuild.
Newcastle Keeping Tabs on Bowen
Newcastle United are believed to be tracking West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen ahead of the summer transfer window, with Eddie Howe’s side exploring options to freshen up their frontline.
According to the Daily Mail, Bowen is attracting attention from several Premier League clubs and could potentially leave the London Stadium this summer, regardless of whether West Ham avoid relegation. Newcastle are among the clubs keeping a close watch on the situation.
The England international has long been admired across the league thanks to his consistency in front of goal and ability to produce decisive moments in big matches. Former West Ham boss David Moyes once described Bowen as a “special” player, and his performances over recent years have only strengthened that reputation.
Liverpool are also said to be interested as they search for attacking reinforcements following Mohamed Salah’s confirmed decision to leave Anfield, while Everton have reportedly entered the conversation too due to Moyes’ previous relationship with the winger.
For Newcastle, though, Bowen would represent a major statement signing. The 29-year-old has been West Ham’s leading scorer in four of the last five seasons and remains one of the Premier League’s most reliable wide forwards.
West Ham are reportedly preparing for significant upheaval behind the scenes this summer, particularly after Karen Brady’s departure as co-chair earlier this year. Relegation would increase the likelihood of player sales, but there is also a growing feeling that Bowen could be allowed to leave even if the Hammers survive.
Clubs interested in the England international reportedly believe a deal could be struck for under £60million — a figure Newcastle may seriously consider if they decide to overhaul their attack in the coming months.
While no formal move has been made yet, Bowen’s experience, proven Premier League output and versatility would make him an appealing option for a Newcastle side desperate to avoid another underwhelming campaign next season.
