An update has now emerged on Newcastle United's reported bid to try and sign Robert Sanchez in the summer.

The Lowdown: £20m bid

It has been reported that the St. James' Park are now 'lining up' a £20m bid to try and sign Sanchez from Brighton and Hove Albion in the next transfer window.

Eddie Howe’s scouts have been 'tracking' the six-foot-six colossus, and insiders have revealed that he is the manager's first choice for the goalkeeper position, having recently broke his way into the Spain squad, earning his first cap earlier this season.

The Latest: Sanchez update

As per Football Insider, a recruitment source has revealed that the Seagulls will now 'reject' any interest in Sanchez, and that the £20m offer that the North East club are reportedly plotting is 'miles off' their valuation of the Spanish star.

The Seagulls know that he is under contract until 2025, and so are under no pressure to sell their number one, especially to a fellow rival in the Premier League.

The Verdict: Could be costly

Given the length of his contract, and the fact that Brighton would be selling to a rival, the Tyneside outfit's pursuit of Sanchez could prove to be very costly.

Described as having 'amazing' ability and a player who can be 'anything he wants' by his manager Graham Potter (Sky Sports), Sanchez clearly has a lot of potential at just 24 years of age.

Nonetheless, Brighton will be aware that Martin Dubravka is ageing - he will be 34 in January - so may add a few million onto his price tag knowing that the Magpies need to strengthen in his position.
