Transfer insider Alex Crook has revealed that Newcastle United are particularly keen on signing Conor Gallagher on loan.

The Lowdown: Creative midfielder wanted

With links to the likes of James Maddison, Ross Barkley and Lucas Paqueta in recent weeks, it is clear that Eddie Howe wants to add another creative midfielder to his squad.

The St. James' Park outfit rank 12th in the Premier League in terms of big chances created so far this season, and will need that to be higher if they want to push to finish in the top half of the table.

The Latest: Gallagher interest

Writing in his latest Transfer Notebook for talkSPORT, Crook has revealed that the North East club are 'particularly keen' on signing Gallagher, should he become available.

They have kept a domestic loan slot free, in case Chelsea allow him to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Verdict: Smart move

It would certainly be a smart move by the Tynesiders to sign Gallagher on loan, considering how impressive he was at Crystal Palace last term.

Hailed as 'outstanding' by Thomas Tuchel, and a 'warrior' by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, he deservedly won Palace's Player of the Season (POTS) award, and broke into the England squad under Gareth Southgate.

Gallagher managed an impressive eight goals and five assists in total over all competitions for the Eagles (Transfermarkt), and at 22 years of age, his ceiling remains very high.
