Liam Kennedy has given his reaction to some news that he has now heard from Newcastle United involving academy talent Dylan Stephenson.

The Lowdown: New deal pending

As per Newcastle World, Stephenson is now set to pen a new deal at St. James' Park, amid interest in a loan move from many Football League, National League and Scottish clubs.

Talks over a second senior contract have been ongoing over the last three months, and it looks like an agreement has now been reached, with Stephenson set to stay in the North East until 2024.

The Latest: Kennedy reacts

Taking to Twitter, Newcastle World journalist Kennedy has now given his reaction to the update, claiming that it is 'big news' for the NUFC academy.

This is a striker with 32 goals in total at youth level for the Tyneside outfit, including 11 so far this season (Transfermarkt), and so it is no surprise to see Kennedy react so strongly to the news.

The Verdict: Bright future

With Stephenson looking like he is going to stay with the Magpies long-term, he and the club certainly have a bright future.

His goals and overall performances this campaign have not gone unnoticed, as he was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award back in September, the same month that former Toon manager Steve Bruce decided to promote him to the senior squad.

The 19-year-old has not yet played for the first team, but if the fans have their way, Stephenson will get his chance soon under Eddie Howe.
