Newcastle United: Journalist confirms interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle United: Journalist confirms interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin -Newcastle United News

Newcastle United are ‘interested’ in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer but face one major problem.

The Lowdown: Ekitike snub

Reims manager Oscar Garcia has recently claimed that Hugo Ekitike would like to stay at the Ligue 1 club, unless Real Madrid or FC Barcelona came knocking for him.

The St. James’ Park outfit have reportedly been in talks to try and sign Ekitike all summer, but it looks as if they now have to look at other targets in the striker position.

This led to rumours of a move for Calvert-Lewin, and a reporter from The Chronicle has now given credence to those links.

The Latest: Calvert-Lewin interest

Taking to Twitter, The Chronicle’s Ross Gregory has now revealed that the North East club are ‘certainly interested’ in a move for Calvert-Lewin, although he would demand a ‘huge fee’, and Richarlison moving to Tottenham Hotspur has halted any immediate chance of him leaving for now:

“Richarlison’s move to Spurs halts any immediate thoughts of Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving Everton. #nufc certainly interested in him but the huge fee is obstructive. Broja a more realistic target. Feels like hunt for attacking reinforcements may go on a while longer.”

Newcastle fans! Do you remember who scored your first league goal of the 21/22 season?

The Verdict: Calvert-Lewin over Broja

Armando Broja would also be a smart signing by the Tynesiders, but they should be looking to pay that extra bit of money to try and get Calvert-Lewin in.

His season was scuppered by injury, but he still managed five goals in 17 appearances in the Premier League, a better ratio then Broja’s six in 32.

Should Newcastle sign Calvert-Lewin?

The England international also won more aerial duels and averaged more shots and key passes per game than his Albanian counterpart, and of course has much more experience in the top flight in general than Broja.

A player dubbed ‘one of the best‘ in his position by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Calvert-Lewin would certainly add another dimension in the Magpies’ attack.
