CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Newcastle United have now 'made enquiries' over signing PSG striker Arnaud Kalimuendo.

The Lowdown: Striker wanted

It is clear that the St. James' Park outfit want to sign a new striker this window, with Alexander Isak and Armando Broja thought to be just two names that are being considered.

Callum Wilson suffered from injury problems last season, and Chris Wood struggled to find the back of the net, so they could really do with another frontman to boost Eddie Howe's squad.

The Latest: Enquiries

Taking to Twitter, Jacobs has revealed that the North East club have now 'made enquiries' over the possibility of signing Kalimuendo, as well as Leeds United, Ajax and Atalanta:

"Told Leeds, Newcastle, Ajax and Atalanta have all made enquiries to PSG about Arnaud Kalimuendo."

He claims that the France U21 international would be a 'bargain' at £20m, adding that he is 'technically gifted' and fits the Tynesiders' strategy of trying to find a young talent to support Wilson:

"Kalimuendo would be a bargain at around £20 million. PSG open to a sale despite impressive loan with Lens. He’s technically gifted and always seems to find space. Fits Newcastle strategy, as per failed Hugo Ekitike bid, of trying to find a young talent to support Callum Wilson."

The Verdict: Get it done

Given that Isak would cost a club-record bid, and Chelsea are likely to demand at least £30m to sign Broja, Kalimuendo could be seen as a cheaper alternative.

Journalist Jacque Talbot has hailed him as a 'disgustingly good striker' with 'bags of potential', and claims that he would sign Kalimuendo over Isak or Broja 'any day of the week'.

His nine in their respective teams, and given that the 20-year-old is younger than both of them, his ceiling could well be higher.

Nonetheless, with the level of competition for his signature, this is a deal that the Magpies may need to act quickly to get done as soon as possible.
