Newcastle United are reportedly 'looking again' at signing PSV winger Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: World Cup star

Gakpo was a star for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals in his opening three games, before his country were knocked out by Argentina at the quarter-final stage.

Lauded as ‘something special‘ by renowned football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano for his heroics, the winger is a player that is likely to attract plenty of interest come January, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United already thinking about moves.

The Latest: Newcastle 'looking again'

Taking to Twitter, journalist Scott Wilson has revealed that the St. James' Park outfit will be 'looking again' at Gakpo in January, after previously eyeing up a move in the summer:

"#NUFC looked at Cody Gakpo in the summer - and they'll be looking again next month. Any move for the Dutch international won't be cheap though...."

Expanding in his article for The Northern Echo, Wilson adds that the North East club have been told that they will have to pay more than £40m for his signature, although PSV would like to keep him until the summer at least.

The Verdict: Get it done

After recently being linked with the likes of Chelsea's Christian Pulisic and Leeds United's Jack Harrison, it is clear that the Tynesiders would like to bring in another winger into the squad.

Aside from his World Cup exploits, Gakpo's blistering form for PSV speaks for itself, with no fewer than 13 goals and 17 assists in just 24 games in total over all competitions before the break (Transfermarkt).

At just 23 years of age, he has so much potential, and Eddie Howe's side could really benefit if he comes to the Magpies in January.
