Liam Kennedy has now dropped some big Newcastle United injury news on Callum Wilson.

The Lowdown: Training again

Eddie Howe revealed last week that Wilson is set to start training with the rest of the squad as he looks to bump up his recovery from injury.

The former AFC Bournemouth striker is expected to return before the end of the season, although it is not clear when exactly that will be, or indeed whether he will be risked.

Wilson has missed 23 games this season with calf and hamstring injuries.

The Latest: 'He's close'

Writing in his latest piece for Newcastle World, Kennedy shared an update from Wilson direct from the striker's Instagram page, where he captioned an image of him playing on the pitch with an hourglass emoji.

Taking to Twitter, Kennedy then shared his article with the caption 'He's close...'

The Verdict: Big boost

It is certainly a big boost for the St. James' Park faithful that Wilson is seemingly close to a return.

The game away at reigning champions Manchester City over the weekend may come too soon for him, but the Englishman will no doubt want to get back into the swing of playing competitive games before pre-season.

Nonetheless, he remains their top scorer in the Premier League with six goals so far this term despite his injury, and so his fitness will be pivotal in determining how high up the table they finish.
