Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser is a doubt for the trip to Southampton on Thursday, according to Hampshire Live’s Rob Warlow.
The Lowdown: Fraser starring for Newcastle
The Scot has been a regular under Eddie Howe, missing just one Premier League game under the Newcastle boss since December.
He scored and provided an assist on Saturday against Brighton at St James’ Park but made way in the second half nursing a slight injury.
The Latest: Warlow’s claim on Fraser
Saints reporter Warlow looked at Newcastle’s squad ahead of Thursday’s meeting, with Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Isaac Hayden and Matt Ritchie all set to be missing.
Fraser was also labelled as an injury doubt in Hampshire Live in what would be another injury blow for Howe, especially following the 28-year-old’s form in recent weeks.
The Verdict: What will Howe do?
January signing Bruno Guimaraes was the man who replaced Fraser on the weekend, so he could be a possible option to come in for the Scotland international on the south coast in what would be a first Newcastle start for the Brazilian.
Howe will have other options, though, with both Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron also on the bench last time out.
Even though Fraser looks likely to become the squad’s sixth absentee for Thursday night, it’s good to know that the manager has a few options as he looks to guide the Magpies to nine top-flight games without defeat.
