A Newcastle United source has now revealed some big injury news involving Callum Wilson.

The Lowdown: Light training

Wilson has been back in light training this week, as he looks to recover from a calf injury that he has been suffering from since January.

Of course, it will take him time to get back up to speed, and so he should not be expected to feature away at Everton on Thursday night, or for their next few games.

However, he may now be able to play at St. James' Park towards the end of the season, with the upcoming international break offering even more recovery time.

The Latest: Return date

Speaking to Football Insider, a source from the North East club has revealed that Wilson is now making 'good progress' on his recovery, and has 'targeted' a potential return against Norwich City on 23rd April.

This means that he would also be able to play in the four fixtures that follow in the Premier League: Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Burnley.

The Verdict: Big boost

Given the news already that Joe Willock is now back for the Tyneside outfit in time to face the Toffees, this update on Wilson provides another big boost.

He still remains their top scorer in all competitions this term, despite being out for a few months, and so if the Magpies do find themselves dragged back into a relegation battle come May, then his goals could be vital in getting them out of it.

The fixtures look daunting on paper, facing three of the current top four, but if they are to have any chance of picking up points, Eddie Howe's team will need Wilson fit again for the run-in.
