Newcastle United are set to sanction another loan deal for Freddie Woodman to re-join Swansea City, according to Wales Online.
As per the outlet, the goalkeeper only has one year left on his current deal at the Tyneside club, although it is understood that he will sign a new contract extension before moving back to the Liberty Stadium.
Woodman impressed while at the Swans in the 2019/20 season, where he played 43 games in total in the Championship, keeping 12 clean sheets (via Transfermarkt).
His rather impressive displays had caught the eye of Celtic, as Neil Lennon was looking for a replacement for Fraser Forster.
Will Woodman ever make it at Newcastle?
Even Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were reportedly looking at him at one point as possible cover for Bernd Leno before the emergence of Emiliano Martinez, as Woodman had apparently been significantly scouted by the Gunners.
However, both moves failed to materialise, and so it looks like the the 23-year old will be on his way back to Swansea in the Championship.
It is perhaps a smart move from the perspective of Steve Bruce, too. The Magpies are arguably already well-covered in the goalkeeping front, as they already have Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie on their books (per Transfermarkt).
Being just 23 years of age is relatively young for a ‘keeper, and so Woodman still has plenty of years to develop and maybe even make the position his own at St James’ Park in the future.
The Englishman will hope to impress once again at the Swans as he tries to help them get back to the Premier League.
