Newcastle United are set to rival Celtic, Everton and West Bromwich Albion for West Ham United ace Grady Diangana in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
As per the outlet, the 22-year old is valued at £20m, with West Brom having a £15m bid rejected by the Hammers following his successful loan spell with the Baggies.
Indeed, Diangana played a big part in WBA’s promotion from the Championship this season as he scored eight goals and supplued a further seven assists in 30 games in total in the division (via Transfermarkt).
The Englishman could well be ready for the Premier League and, based off of his stats compared to some of the attacking players at St. James’ Park, he may well get a lot of game-time under Steve Bruce.
Diangana averaged more key passes in England’s second tier than Allan Saint-Maximin, Christian Atsu and Miguel Almiron have managed so far in the 2019/20 season in the top flight, and also netted more goals than all three of the Newcastle men combined (per Whoscored).
There is a difference in quality between the Premier League and Championship but, given that the winger helped his team achieve promotion, Diangana will surely be confident that he can make the step up.
Would Diangana start for Newcastle?
The price tag of £20m could be seen as a gamble but, given that he is only 22 and has so many years ahead of him, it could well be a price worth paying for the Magpies if they wish to kick on going into the new season.
