Some news for Newcastle United fans to cheer about has reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern, with sources at The Telegraph revealing the club are set to make the double signing of French Under-21 international Massadio Haidara of Nancy and Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
With the Magpies already having sealed the signature of full back Mathieu Debuchy from Lille, Alan Pardew has once again looked to Ligue 1 to bolster his ranks as his Magpies side look to pull clear of their perilous league position.
The signing of the highly rated full back Haidara looks set to be complete as a statement on Nancy’s club website read: “After 46 games and two-and-a-half years in the Nancy shirt, Massadio Haidara is leaving his former club for Newcastle United, currently sixteenth inthe Premier League.
“The two clubs have reached an agreement and will finalise the deal on Tuesday.”
The deal to bring 23-year-old Yanga-Mbiwa to Tyneside also looks set to reach its conclusion as Montpellier have confirmed that their
talismanic centre half will have a medical at Newcastle ahead of his switch.
The Frenchman featured during his side’s Champions League campaign this term, which saw them finish bottom of a group containing Arsenal, Schalke and Olympiakos.
Pardew will hope to be able to pair his new signing alongside club captain Fabrico Coloccini at the heart of the Toon Army’s defence,
although rumours persist that the Argentinean will be facing the St James’ Park exit as his former club San Lorenzo seek to bring him
home.
