The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been talking amongst themselves and trying to agree how much it would take for Barcelona to price Ilkay Gundogan from them. The German is supposedly Barcelona’s first-choice to replace the departing Andres Iniesta, although Pep Guardiola is keen to keep him and will offer the midfielder a new contract, according to The Sun.

Gundogan is exactly the sort of player that Barcelona are famed for. He’s tidy on the ball, has an excellent passing range, he’s comfortable in and out of possession and he even chips in with goals and assists when his team really need it. The German international is set to feature for Die Mannschaft at the World Cup this month and upon his return to The Etihad, he could have a serious decision to make over his future.
Guardiola made Gundogan one of his first signings in Manchester when he joined the club in the summer of 2016, and with Gundogan often used to hold the midfield forced of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho together, it would be a big loss to see him go. Despite that, the fee that the Citizens could be receiving for the German is one of £50 million, which could be put towards a handy new midfielder to replace Gundogan.

Gundogan’s attitude on and off the pitch has made him a real fan favourite at The Etihad, however, if the club can cash in on him for £50 million then the Jorginho deal is pretty much paid for.
