The Daily Star is keeping Manchester United fans busy today here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they have some rather juicy gossip about David De Gea.

The Spaniard once again starred for Manchester United against Liverpool and was even voted man of the match despite the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory.

However, when Louis van Gaal was asked about a new deal for the Spanish international star to keep him at Old Trafford, he brushed off the talk claiming: “It is between the club and the player, and not up for discussion with the media.”

As our landlord wisely notes, this does not mean that there is no new deal for De Gea, rather that United are reverting back to the Sir Alex Ferguson way of doing things and keeping all their business in house.

This is something that may keep us thirsty for information but also something that the fans think is a contrast to last season and one that will be nothing but positive for the club.

De Gea is wanted by reigning Champions League victors Real Madrid but a bumper deal is thought to be on the table for the former Atletico Madrid star in order to keep him at the club for the long-term.
