The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been groaning today at a transfer rumour that they’ve read in the South London Press that claims their club is interested in resigning Crystal Palace winger, Andros Townsend. The ex-Spurs winger was at the club for six months of the 2015/16 season when they got relegated before ending his short stay at the club to move to Palace.

Now the transfer rumour mill is in full swing and churning out rumours left, right and centre Newcastle fans can start to look at the targets who they really want to see made Magpies. Unfortunately, Townsend is not one of those. The left-footed right-winger who’s somehow amassed 13 caps for his country has featured in all but two of the Eagles’ Premier League games this season, scoring twice and laying on eight goals for teammates.
Whilst Townsend isn’t completely useless, the traits that he offers aren’t compatible with the way Newcastle United have been playing under Rafa Benitez. The winger is superb in a one-vs-one situation and has the ability to find a cross with ease, making him suitable for a team like Crystal Palace who play with a big target-man striker such as Christian Benteke. At Newcastle, a winger like Kenedy would be much more suitable for the club’s style and he would be much better received by the fans.

The mood among the Newcastle fans is frustration. The club has signed Townsend once and do not want to see it happen again.
