Manchester City have emphatically gone about their business this summer and that has excellently pleased supporters in the Transfer Tavern, as Pep Guardiola’s aims to improve on his first twelve months in England.
It was undoubtedly a horrid opening season for the Spaniard in the Premier League, as all expectations for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss to lead the Sky Blues to the title were failed to be fulfilled.
However, our landlord reckons now Guardiola has adapted to just how competitive the top-flight is, he is now fully equipped and made the signings that will widely benefit this depleted Manchester City squad.
The club will hoping to pursue as much silverware as is realistically possible this year and that includes the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, which Pep Guardiola will feel his team are capable of winning.
They get it all underway with a trip to the south coast on the opening weekend to face the division’s new boys Brighton & Hove Albion, and here’s two things punters should expect from this fixture…..
Gabriel Jesus to lead the line?
It is unquestionable that Pep Guardiola is a keen admirer of Brazilian prospect Gabriel Jesus, who he brought to City in a £27 million deal last year, and the youngster had an encouraging initial six months in the Premier League.
The Football Transfer Tavern is still yet to discover whether the manager will favour Jesus over Sergio Aguero, but by going from last season it is potentially going to be the case that the latter is dropped.
There is plenty of pre-season matches to be played out and these could surely alter Guardiola’s perspective, however, at this moment in time, it seems Gabriel Jesus is the preferred option to lead the line.
Ederson set to make his Premier League debut
One of Guardiola’s first signings as Manchester City boss was goalkeeper Claudio Bravo but the heavily criticised Chilean has seemingly lost his spot as first-choice at the Etihad, as the club splashed out £35 million on Ederson from Benfica.
The 23-year-old is a complete stranger to the Premier League and that is why City supporters in the tavern are a tad sceptical over the Brazilian’s place in the starting eleven, leaning towards the idea he should be slowly included.
Nevertheless, Ederson is likely to make his competitive debut for the Sky Blues in the visit to Brighton & Hove Albion so it could very well be intriguing to see how the summer addition gets on.
