Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Thomas Christiansen has lost his job at Elland Road, with the final straw proving to be their 4-1 mauling at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.
The 44-year-old took over from Garry Monk during the summer in an appointment which surprised many, yet the former APOEL boss led the side to top spot in the Championship back in September, and in and around the play-off places ever since. However, a run of four defeats in six has proven to be the undoing for the Dane, who was subsequently relieved of his duties on Sunday following their 4-1 hammering at home to Neil Warnock’s Cardiff on Saturday, a result which leaves the Whites seven points adrift of the top six.
Thus, there has been much discussion among our resident Leeds fans as to who the next manager might be, and recent reports suggest that former England chief Steve McClaren could well be in the running.
The 56-year-old has been out of work since December after leaving his role as a coaching consultant at Israeli outfit Maccabi Tel-Aviv, while he hasn’t had a job in England since being sacked as Derby County boss in March of last year.
Nonetheless, McClaren was seen at Elland Road on Saturday and as such reports have linked the 56-year-old with the vacant post at the club, in news which has stimulated quite a response from Leeds fans on Twitter.
And it’s fair to say that they really don’t want the former England boss to take over at their club…

Nothing says we’ve an incompetent Board that an appointment that has Steve McClaren in it. We are an embarrassment, this regime is as clueless and damaging as the rest. #lufc
