Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to compete with AC Milan for the signing of Red Bull Salzburg striker Noah Okafor.

The lowdown

The Reds made a British record 21 new signings in the summer transfer window, spending a total of £145.76m, but already they're looking at further reinforcements for the middle of the season.

Swiss outlet Nau reported in June that Forest were showing an interest in Okafor, the 22-year-old frontman who has two years left on his contract.

The latest

Football Express have reported that Forest are still looking at Okafor ahead of the January transfer window.

Both the Reds and Milan - who have also identified the Swiss maestro as a winter target - can meet his £25m price tag, but the Serie A champions have a greater chance of competing for silverware, and that could seemingly sway the player.

The verdict

Okafor's strong start to the season may only have strengthened Forest's desire to sign him. In 12 appearances across all competitions, he has scored seven goals, whilst also providing two assists.

One of those goals actually came against Milan in the Champions League, while he also netted a late equaliser against Chelsea in the group stage to deny Graham Potter victory in his first game in charge of the Blues.

Fabrizio Romano has referred to the 22-year-old as a 'jewel', while talent scout Jacek Kulig billed him 'incredibly prolific' after a 'crazy' start to the new campaign.

Forest may seem like second favourites to sign him, but they have proven very capable of spending whatever is necessary to get deals done, and hopefully that might be the case here as well.
