Liverpool will be hoping to cap an excellent season on the whole with a sixth Champions League success, as manager Jurgen Klopp seeks to add some much needed silverware to the cabinet at Anfield.
The Reds face a difficult but winnable semi-final tie with Roma, and with Mo Salah leading the charge, our Liverpool fans here in the Tavern are confident of making the final and finishing the season with a big bang.
Our landlord thinks they can do it as well, and he also thinks they aren’t far off being able to topple Manchester City domestically, as long as Klopp can get it right in the summer and add the right players as well as moving on those who he feels aren’t quite up to scratch.
With that in mind, we’ve been having some discussions about transfers and taken a look at one potential incoming and one potential outgoing this summer at Anfield…
Out – Danny Ings
The emergence of Salah this season and the form of Roberto Firmino have left the former Burnley striker with limited chances despite a return from injury.
Ings, who was in red hot form prior to his move to Anfield and subsequent injury, has found himself down the pecking order and despite being given a few chances by Jurgen Klopp in recent months, he has still failed to make a massive impression.
A summer move would appear to be on the cards, and a move would suit both parties. Liverpool need more in terms of attacking threat if they are dethrone City, while Ings needs regular first team football to reignite his ailing career.
In – Iker Muniain
The young Spaniard had been in tremendous form for his club Atletico Bilbao before serious injury struck in September, ruling him out of proceedings until very recently.
Muniain has though now returned in the last two games off the bench, and he will be hoping for a good run between now and the end of the season.
If he can get back to his best, then the young winger would represent a superb signing for Liverpool. Quick, skillful, and someone who can both score goals and lay them on a plate for his teammates, he would no doubt fit in perfectly with the Reds and their way of playing.
