The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted by the calibre of talent to emerge from their club’s academy in recent years, and recent reports suggest Jurgen Klopp has big plans for another teenager who is on the verge of a first-team call-up.
The likes of Raheem Sterling, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez have all emerged from Liverpool’s youth set-up and established themselves as fantastic Premier League footballers in the past half-decade. Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn are two wide players who are both threatening to burst onto the scene in the near-future to challenge Mo Salah and Sadio Mane for a starting berth, however, they are not the only talents who are knocking on the door for an opportunity.
The Reds’ 18-year-old striker, namely Rhian Brewster is also threatening to make his mark on the senior squad next season, especially now he has signed his first professional contract with the club which will keep him at Anfield until 2023, according to Liverpool’s official website. Brewster has been widely tipped for a successful future in the game due to his remarkable record at youth level which has seen him lift the U17 World Cup whilst scoring 20 from 23 for the England U17 side.
Rumours had been swirling around the British media that Brewster was considering a move to Germany prior to the club’s official announcement, and his decision to remain at Anfield was met with huge relief by the Liverpool supporters propping up our bar. Not only is Brewster a clinical finisher in and around the 18-yard-box, he is a constant outlet with his blistering pace in behind the back-four, and his ability in this regard has proven far too much for defenders to handle throughout his development.
The 18-year-old is also eagle-eyed in the final-third and has the composure to find his teammates in goal-scoring positions – 7 assists from 11 league outings serves to prove he is much more than just a finisher. The early signs are immensely promising for Brewster, so Liverpool were certainly wise to secure his long-term future before a rival club snapped him up.
Liverpool have already secured the signatures of both Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer and moe players are expected to arrive on Merseyside as the window progresses, but when Brewster is scoring 20+ goals a season in a few years time, their latest signing will undoubtedly represent Liverpool’s signing of the 2017/18 season.
As a natural number nine Brewster can offer Klopp something completely different to Firmino at the spearhead of Liverpool’s attack next season and, considering the rate of his development so far, it might not be too early for the London-born youngster to make a breakthrough at senior level when the new campaign gets underway.
