Opinion: Marcin Bulka’s pending exit is a worrying sign for Chelsea

Over the course of this season, a lot has been said about Callum Hudson-Odoi and how he could leave Chelsea with his contract running down (Sky Sports).

It seems, though, that Marcin Bulka will be the first promising youngster heading out of Stamford Bridge this summer.

Goal reports that the 19-year-old has signed a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain in a worrying a development for the Blues.

With Bulka and Hudson-Odoi refusing to put pen to paper on new deals, it is starting to look like the west London outfit’s best talents will not commit to the club due to a fear of not getting the game time they desire.

With Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola to compete against, there is nothing to suggest that Bulka will get that at PSG.

But with Chelsea having spent £71m on a new shot-stopper last summer (BBC Sport), it is to no surprise that Bulka was unwilling to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

In Chelsea’s defence, the goalkeeper position is not one to experiment with going into a new season where the club needed to qualify for the Champions League.

But it is that sort of approach to the transfer market and lack of faith in the academy system that has left Bulka and Hudson-Odoi asking serious questions.

And if things do not change, it would not be a shock to see other names follow the Poland youth international out of SW6.
