According to Greek outlet Sport Day (via Sdna.gr), Liverpool are interested in Olympiacos defender Ousseynou Ba.
Whilst the Reds are yet to make a bid, the report says that Sadio Mane could well push his compatriot to make the move to Anfield after he was recently called up to the Senegal national team.
Fosonline.gr, meanwhile, have said that it would take an offer of €25m (£22.1m) to force the Greek side to part ways with the 24-year-old.
It seems the Reds are after a new centre-back. They have already been linked with Sevilla man Diego Carlos, who has a release clause of €70m (£61.8m) – that is a considerable amount of money for someone who would not be guaranteed a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
Ba, too, would unlikely be one of the first names on the team sheet given the strong form of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez this term, but his far cheaper price makes him a more intriguing option. He only made the switch to Piraeus last January from Ajaccio, but he is already attracting attention from bigger clubs around Europe – Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid have also been linked in the Greek press (Sport Witness).
With Mane, the Reds are in an advantageous position. He is Senegal’s star player, after all – there is no-one better to convince Ba that Merseyside is the right place for him.
Michael Edwards and co would be mad not to use the 27-year-old African Player of the Year as they look to add to their squad. He could very well hold the key to this potential signature.
