The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been looking ahead to the 2018/19 season as they look at their options in midfield and up front. Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane struck up a terrifying partnership this season, although the fans want to see stronger options on the bench and are pleased to see that Stoke forward, Xherdan Shaqiri has been linked with an Anfield switch.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had a very impressive campaign last season, the Reds finished 4th in the Premier League, confirming that they’d be playing Champions League football on the last day of the season when they thumped Brighton 4-0 at Anfield. However, the club’s European adventure is what everyone’s been talking about, as the Kopites made is all the way to final, eventually losing to Real Madrid 3-1, but that could have been so different if Klopp’s side had the strength in depth that Zinedine Zidane’s Los Blancos had on the night.
Shaqiri can count himself unlucky to have been relegated this season. Individually the Swiss winger has been superb when he’s played and he never fails to get crowds off their seats. This summer could see the 26-year-old move on the cheap as he has a relegation clause in his deal that allows him to leave The Brittania Stadium on the cheap, for a fee of around £12 million. Both Liverpool and Tottenham have been looking into Shaqiri as they look to bolster their options from the bench ahead of the new domestic season.
You can read our resident Reds’ opinions on Shaqiri here:
Shaqiri is better than Solanke, Lallana, and Ings. Remember we need a backup. At this market 15 million for Shaqiri is an absolutely steal.

Cannot see how Shaqiri could offer less off the bench than Ings, Solanke or Lallana did last season

People that are moaning about us potentially signing Shaqiri and Simon (on the cheap by the way) are the same people that moan when Ings and Solanke come off the bench. #LFC

The same people moaning about Shaqiri signing are the people that moan when we’ve only got Solanke and Ings on the bench

Shaqiri would be a decent signing tbh, can't have Ings & Solanke as the only attacking back-up options again next season
